Ho scelto tra tutti gli alberi quello d'olivo perchè, oltre ad essere una presenza forte nel sud d'italia, è un albero capace di mettere radici, crescere, dare frutti e resistere nei terreni secchi e rocciosi del paesaggio del mediterraneo,suo luogo di origine. Rievoca la determinazione, la rigenerazione e la fecondità. Gli alberi di olivo si rinnovano perpetuamente dalle radici, riescono a rigermogliare anche dopo un incendio, anche se la chioma o il tronco sono morti. Era l'albero della vita per gli antichi greci e romani, gli ebrei biblici e i mussulmani. Il ramoscello d'ulivo è dunque un simbolo di rigenerazione, allo stesso tempo è simbolo di pace ( si ricordi la narrazione biblica) che attestava la fine del castigo e la riconciliazione di Dio con gli uomini.

 

I chose among all trees the olive tree because, besides being a strong presence in southern Italy, it is a tree capable of taking root, growing, bearing fruit and enduring in the dry, rocky soils of the Mediterranean landscape,its place of origin. It evokes determination, regeneration and fruitfulness. Olive trees perpetually renew themselves from the roots, manage to regrow even after a fire, even if the crown or trunk is dead. It was the tree of life for the ancient Greeks and Romans, biblical Jews and Muslims. The olive branch is thus a symbol of regeneration, at the same time it is a symbol of peace ( remember the biblical narrative) that attested to the end of chastisement and God's reconciliation with mankind.
